002 / PANDEMIC ARTWORK STORIES

WITH RAYMOND BONILLA

Lefferts and 95th by Raymond Bonilla

Where are you painting from and what have you been doing to keep busy?

I am currently painting in my home studio in Buffalo, NY. I am keeping busy by working on a new body of work that will be going to the Abend Gallery in Denver, CO and Arcadia Gallery in Los Angeles, CA for future exhibitions.

How does this piece differ, if at all, from your typical painting style and how did you find inspiration from your surroundings for it?

The piece doesn’t differ from my typical painting style. I find inspiration in the scenes of my everyday life and so regardless of whether the subject is a still life, portrait, landscape, or figure, what most important is that the subject is personally meaningful to me in some way.

What is one positive that has come from this experience for you?

I think one positive aspect is the ability to focus even more on the trajectory that I would like my work to take and reevaluate how I promote and grow my business.

What is one of your favorite pieces in the collection from a fellow artist?

If I had to pick one (and that’s near impossible), I’d pick Hillary Scott’s beautiful "Summer Haze" landscape.
