Ellen Jean Diederich

Ellen Jean Diederich

Ellen Jean Diederich is Neo-Impressionist watercolor & acrylic painter from Fargo, ND. With a love of color and definitive style, her favorite subjects include flowers, architecture, domestic animals and Midwestern landscape. In watercolor she uses a flat brush, creating calligraphic shapes, paying particular attention to edges and connections in her work. The brushwork becomes even more apparent in her acrylic paintings. By twisting and turning a flat brush she places varied colorful strokes side by side, interlocking shapes. Using her whole arm to paint loosely, a sense of depth comes across like she is painting directly on the subject.

Diederich’s rural and city backgrounds play a significant role in her choice of subject matter. Her parents were very supportive and even sold a cow so she could attend her first workshop. Serving art groups, she painted her way through college, motherhood, wrote and illustrated three books and now enjoys a less interrupted time to focus on her painting. Diederich also teaches online and in person workshops. Giclée reproductions and a large selection of boxed-blank-inside cards are available on her website www.givinity.com and through stores.
