Douglas Wiltraut

DOUGLAS WILTRAUT, one of America's foremost painters in egg tempera and drybrush watercolor, graduated from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA with a BFA in Painting in 1973. Currently the President of the National Society of Painters in Casein & Acrylic, Inc., he most recently has been awarded the Robert Sanstrom Prize and Gold Medal, has twice been the recipient of the Butler Institute of American Art Award, the Today's Art Medal, the Knickerbocker Artists Gold and Silver Medals of Honor and four time recipient of the Ralph Fabri Medal. He was awarded the John J. Newman Medal in New York for the second time and received the Macowin Tuttle Award for Best Watercolor in the 127th and 128th Members show at the Salmagundi Club, NYC. He was awarded the Adirondacks Wilderness Award with Rouse Gold Medallion followed by the Trails & Streams Medal, both in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors.

He was the subject of a feature article on egg tempera painting in American Artist and The Artist's Magazines as well as The Watercolor Artist's Magazine and the 2015 Spring issue of Acrylic Artist Magazine. His work has been included in many important exhibitions including shows at the National Academy of Design, the American Institute of Arts & Letters, the Butler Institute as well as the American Artist Golden Anniversary Exhibition and the Berman Museum Inaugural Exhibition. He has received the Crest Medal from the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and the Sylvan Grouse Medal from the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, both for lifetime achievement. He also received the Rothermel Award from the Kutztown Alumni Association for distinguished & notable achievements. A member of the American Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society he has also been elected an Honorary Member of the Allied Artists of America, Audubon Artists and the Salmagundi Club.

Examples of his work can currently be seen in twelve books including the just released Art Journey America: Landscapes, My Friends, Today's Great Masters by Jack Richeson and the Artist's Illustrated Encyclopedia. He is listed in Who's Who in American Art and his work is included in private, corporate and museum collections. Recently, he and his work were featured in a PBS special, FOCUS: On What Matters on WDIY Channel 39 and three of his works were acquired by the Philip and Muriel Berman Musuem at Ursinus College.
