This painting forms a part of my exploration of my immediate surroundings during the first days of the pandemic. Like much of my work, it contains themes of seasonality, but these themes took on new significance during the uncertainty I was experiencing at the time. The simple shapes of the earth under the snow gave me a focal point of stillness and contemplation. The melting snow on the plowed field shows that this scene is neither winter nor fully springtime, but in between. I find hope in that moment of change.
